Tikkun (magazine)

Tikkun is a bimonthly Jewish interfaith left-progressive magazine and organization based in Berkeley, California. Founded in 1986 by Rabbi Michael Lerner and Nan Fink Gefen, its name is derived from the Hebrew word tikkun olam, meaning "repairing the world."

The magazine aims to provide a platform for progressive Jewish thought, addressing social, political, and environmental issues from a spiritual and ethical perspective. Tikkun features articles on topics such as economic justice, environmentalism, feminism, peace in the Middle East, and the role of spirituality in social change. It advocates for a "Spiritually Based Progressive Politics" that integrates ethical and spiritual values into political discourse.

Historically, the magazine has been known for its critique of both the right-wing and what it perceives as the spiritually impoverished aspects of the left. It promotes dialogue between different perspectives and seeks to build bridges between communities.

Alongside the print magazine, Tikkun also maintains a substantial online presence, publishing articles, essays, and commentary on a daily basis. The Tikkun organization also engages in activism and hosts conferences and events related to its core mission of social justice and spiritual renewal.
