Thomas Meyer (political scientist)
Thomas Meyer (born 1943) is a German political scientist and professor emeritus at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Dortmund. He is known for his research on political theory, political communication, and the social democratic movement.
Meyer studied political science, history, and sociology at the Universities of Freiburg and Munich. He received his doctorate from the University of Munich in 1972. From 1977 to 2008, he was a professor at the University of Dortmund.
His scholarly work often focuses on the renewal of social democracy in the context of globalization and societal change. He has written extensively on the challenges faced by social democratic parties and the need for them to adapt their policies and strategies to contemporary realities. He has also explored the role of communication in shaping public opinion and political discourse.
Meyer has served as an advisor to various political organizations and individuals within the social democratic movement. He has also contributed to public debates on issues related to democracy, social justice, and the future of the welfare state.
