Thomas Flynn (bishop of Achonry)

Thomas Flynn (1842-1916) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman who served as the Bishop of Achonry from 1893 until his death in 1916.

Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, Flynn was educated at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1867. Following ordination, he served in various pastoral roles within the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. He was appointed Parish Priest of Mohill before being nominated as Bishop of Achonry by Pope Leo XIII in 1893.

As Bishop of Achonry, Flynn oversaw the spiritual and administrative affairs of the diocese. He focused on improving Catholic education and supporting various charitable works. He also played a role in the political and social issues of the time, advocating for the rights of Irish Catholics and tenant farmers. During his episcopate, he encouraged devotion to the Sacred Heart and promoted temperance societies within the diocese. He is remembered for his dedication to his pastoral duties and his commitment to the welfare of his flock. He was succeeded as Bishop of Achonry by Patrick Morrisroe.
