Thomas Anderson (Medal of Honor)

Thomas Anderson (born 1837, date of death unknown) was a United States Navy sailor who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the American Civil War.

Biography:

Anderson served as a landsman on board the USS Pontoosuc. On February 15, 1865, during the assault on Fort Fisher, North Carolina, Anderson distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity under heavy fire. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery.

Medal of Honor Citation:

The citation for Anderson's Medal of Honor reads: "Landsman, U.S. Navy. Served on board the U.S.S. Pontoosuc during the capture of Fort Fisher, 15 January 1865. Carrying out his duties bravely and with fortitude, Anderson was conspicuous in his gallantry and intrepidity during the assault."
