The Child (1977 film)

The Child, also known as Zombie Child, is a 1977 American horror film directed by Robert Voskanian and starring Laurel Barnett, Arthur Franz, and Frank Janson. The film centers around a newly-arrived housekeeper, Lena, who discovers that her employer, Mrs. Whitfield, has been keeping her deceased daughter, Rosalie, alive through a combination of witchcraft and the reanimation of other deceased children in the surrounding woods.

The plot follows Lena as she attempts to uncover the truth behind Rosalie's existence and the strange occurrences on the Whitfield property. She learns that Mrs. Whitfield is using her powers to protect Rosalie from being taken, even resorting to murderous actions to keep the secret safe. The undead children, controlled by Mrs. Whitfield's witchcraft, are used to defend Rosalie and eliminate anyone who threatens their existence.

The Child is known for its low-budget production values, its eerie atmosphere, and its use of child actors as zombie-like creatures. While not a major critical success, it has garnered a cult following over the years, particularly among fans of low-budget horror and zombie films.
