Tehumardi

Tehumardi is a village in Saaremaa Parish, Saare County, in western Estonia. It is located approximately 22 kilometers southwest of Kuressaare.

Tehumardi is best known as the site of the Battle of Tehumardi, a significant engagement in the 1944 Battle of Saaremaa during World War II. This battle, fought at night between Soviet and German forces, was a major turning point in the fighting on the island, although ultimately the Germans were forced to retreat. A large monument commemorates the battle and the fallen soldiers on both sides.

The area surrounding Tehumardi is characterized by agricultural land and forests, typical of the Saaremaa landscape. The village itself is relatively small, but the historical significance of the Battle of Tehumardi draws visitors interested in military history.
