The Quake (film)
The Quake (Norwegian: Skjelvet) is a 2018 Norwegian disaster film directed by John Andreas Andersen. It is a sequel to the 2015 film The Wave.
The film follows geologist Kristian Eikjord, reprised by Kristoffer Joner, as he investigates strange seismic activity in Oslo. He comes to believe that a major earthquake is imminent, potentially far more destructive than the 1904 Oslo earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 5.4.
The Quake primarily focuses on Kristian's attempts to warn authorities and rescue his family, including his wife Idun (Ane Dahl Torp) and their children, before and during the catastrophic earthquake. The narrative explores the themes of family resilience, government preparedness (or lack thereof), and the devastating consequences of natural disasters in urban environments.
The film received generally positive reviews, with praise directed towards its visual effects, acting performances, and suspenseful storyline. It was a box office success in Norway and internationally, further cementing the popularity of the disaster film genre in Scandinavian cinema.
