Superbus (company)
Superbus was an Israeli company that developed and designed articulated bi-articulated high-capacity buses. Founded in 2006, its primary goal was to create a mass transit solution that could significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve the efficiency of public transportation in urban areas. The company focused on building buses that offered greater passenger capacity compared to traditional buses while maintaining maneuverability suitable for city streets.
The Superbus vehicles were characterized by their innovative three-section design, allowing for a substantially larger passenger load. These buses aimed to bridge the gap between standard buses and light rail systems in terms of capacity and cost-effectiveness.
Despite generating considerable interest and undergoing testing in several cities, Superbus faced financial challenges. Ultimately, the company ceased operations in 2015, and its intellectual property was reportedly acquired by other entities. While the Superbus concept demonstrated potential for high-capacity urban transport, the company was unable to achieve long-term financial sustainability and market success. The legacy of Superbus lies in its contribution to the ongoing exploration of innovative solutions for addressing the increasing demands on urban public transportation systems.
