Bob McCarthy (footballer)
Robert "Bob" McCarthy is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He primarily played as a second-row forward.
McCarthy is best known for his time with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, where he was a key member of their dominant teams of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He won four premierships with South Sydney (1967, 1968, 1970, and 1971).
McCarthy also played for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and represented Australia in numerous international matches. He was known for his hard-hitting defence and strong running style. He is considered one of the legends of Australian rugby league. After his playing career, he remained involved in the sport through coaching and commentary.
