St. Patrick's Cathedral (New York City)

St. Patrick's Cathedral is a prominent landmark and a major example of Gothic Revival architecture in New York City, serving as the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Located on Fifth Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets in Midtown Manhattan, directly across from Rockefeller Center, it is one of the most visible and recognizable churches in the United States.

Construction began in 1858 but was halted during the American Civil War. It resumed in 1865 and the cathedral was finally completed in 1878. The original architect was James Renwick Jr. who designed the building with a neo-Gothic style inspired by European cathedrals.

The cathedral's exterior is characterized by its white marble facade, towering spires reaching over 330 feet high, and intricate detailing. The interior features stained glass windows, a high altar designed by Charles D. Maginnis, two pipe organs, and seating for approximately 3,000 people. Significant renovations and restorations have been undertaken throughout its history, most recently completed in 2015.
