Spellbound (Split Enz album)
Spellbound is the sixth studio album by New Zealand rock band Split Enz, released in 1980. Initially released as "True Colours" in Australia and New Zealand, the album's title was changed to "Spellbound" for its international release, primarily due to the pre-existence of another album titled "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper. The album features a slightly altered track listing and cover art compared to the original "True Colours" release.
"Spellbound" continued the band's trend of blending art rock, pop, and new wave elements, showcasing the songwriting talents of Neil Finn and Tim Finn. Notable tracks include "I Got You," a major international hit that propelled the album's success, and "Shark Attack." The album is characterized by its sophisticated arrangements, strong melodies, and imaginative lyrics. It reached significant chart positions in various countries, solidifying Split Enz's international reputation. The album is often considered a defining work in the band's discography and a landmark release in New Zealand music history.
