Slavnica

Slavnica was a Slavic fortified settlement (grad) located in present-day Slovakia, and the center of the Slavnica dominion, a semi-independent territory during the 11th and 12th centuries. The dominion existed in the borderlands between the Kingdom of Hungary and Bohemia/Moravia, often changing allegiance based on the prevailing political climate. The lords of Slavnica are believed to have been related to the House of Zobor, a prominent noble family in the region. The Slavnica dominion's independence gradually eroded as Hungarian royal power consolidated, eventually being fully integrated into the Kingdom of Hungary. Archaeological evidence suggests a high level of craft specialization and trade within the Slavnica settlement. The exact scope of the Slavnica dominion is debated among historians, though it likely encompassed parts of the Váh River valley.
