Skourta
Skourta is a village and a community in the Tanagra municipality, Boeotia, Greece. It is situated on the eastern slopes of Mount Parnitha, at an altitude of approximately 680 meters. The community consists of the village of Skourta and the smaller settlement of Palaioskourta.
Skourta is historically significant for its role in the Greek War of Independence. It was the site of a battle in 1821 where Greek rebels successfully ambushed and defeated a larger Ottoman force. This victory was important in bolstering the morale of the Greek revolutionaries and contributed to the overall success of the uprising.
The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, with olives, grapes, and livestock being important products. There is also some tourism related to the area's historical significance and natural beauty. The village retains a traditional character, with many older stone houses.
