River Police (Bangladesh)
The River Police is a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police responsible for maintaining law and order, preventing and investigating crimes, and ensuring the safety and security of waterways within Bangladesh. Its jurisdiction extends to all navigable rivers, canals, and estuaries within the country's territory.
The primary functions of the River Police include:
- Combating River Crime: Preventing and investigating offenses such as piracy, robbery, smuggling, illegal fishing, and transportation of illegal goods.
- Maintaining Public Order: Ensuring public safety and security during events and gatherings on or near waterways.

The River Police operates under the administrative control of the Bangladesh Police and is headed by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
