USS Monticello (LSD-35)
The USS Monticello (LSD-35) was an Anchorage-class dock landing ship in the United States Navy. She was commissioned on July 28, 1971, and decommissioned on September 30, 1999.
The Monticello's primary mission was to transport and land Marines, their equipment, and supplies via embarked landing craft and helicopters during amphibious operations. She featured a large well deck that could accommodate landing craft air cushion (LCACs), landing craft utility (LCUs), and other amphibious vehicles. She also had a flight deck capable of supporting helicopter operations.
Throughout her career, USS Monticello participated in numerous exercises, deployments, and operations around the world. Notably, she saw service in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War and Operation Desert Storm. She also participated in humanitarian relief efforts.
After decommissioning, the USS Monticello was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register and eventually scrapped.
