Roger Nelson (baseball)

Roger Nelson (born December 9, 1944) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox (1967), Baltimore Orioles (1969-1974), Kansas City Royals (1975), and San Diego Padres (1975).

Nelson was primarily a relief pitcher throughout his career. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 1966 MLB draft and made his major league debut with them in 1967. However, he spent most of his time in the minor leagues before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles.

His most successful years were with the Orioles, where he was a key member of their bullpen. He was a part of the Orioles teams that won the World Series in 1970 and the American League pennant in 1969 and 1971. During his time with Baltimore, he was known for his effective slider and his ability to induce ground balls.

After leaving the Orioles, Nelson played briefly for the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres before retiring from professional baseball. Following his playing career, he remained involved in baseball as a coach.
