Amrit Rai
Amrit Rai (अमृत राय) (1921-1996) was an Indian writer and scholar, best known for his work in Hindi literature. He was the son of the renowned Hindi writer Munshi Premchand.
Rai made significant contributions to Hindi literary criticism and biography. He is particularly recognized for his comprehensive biography of his father, Premchand: Kalam ka Sipahi (प्रेमचंद: कलम का सिपाही), often translated as Premchand: The Soldier with a Pen. This biography is considered a seminal work in Hindi literary history, offering deep insights into Premchand's life, works, and the socio-political context in which he wrote.
In addition to his biographical work, Rai also authored several novels, short stories, and essays. He was known for his progressive views and his commitment to social justice, themes that often appeared in his writing. He received several literary awards for his contributions to Hindi literature.
