Simcoe North (federal electoral district)
Simcoe North is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1904. It covers a large portion of the County of Simcoe, including the towns of Midland, Penetanguishene, and Orillia, as well as a number of smaller communities and rural areas.
Historically, the riding has swung between the Liberal and Conservative parties, with periods of strong support for both. Its demographics are diverse, encompassing both urban and rural populations, as well as a significant tourism sector.
The riding's boundaries have been adjusted several times over the years to reflect population changes. These adjustments have sometimes resulted in significant shifts in the electoral map and can impact the riding's political leaning. The current boundaries were defined in the 2013 representation order and used for the 2015 and subsequent federal elections.
Key industries in Simcoe North include manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and increasingly, technology. The economy is also significantly influenced by its proximity to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Simcoe North is elected during federal elections held every few years. The MP represents the riding's constituents in the House of Commons, advocating for their interests and participating in the legislative process. Information about past and current MPs can be found on the Parliament of Canada website.
