Javed Iqbal (judge, born 1946)

Javed Iqbal (born October 5, 1946, Sialkot, Punjab, British India – died January 3, 2015, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan) was a Pakistani jurist and author who served as a senior justice on the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He was the son of the renowned poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Javed Iqbal received his early education in Lahore, then studied law at the University of Cambridge, receiving a PhD in Philosophy of Law. He qualified as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn in London.

He began his legal career in Pakistan, practicing as an advocate in the Lahore High Court. He was elevated to the Lahore High Court as a judge in 1971 and subsequently to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Iqbal was known for his intellectual contributions and writings on Islamic philosophy, jurisprudence, and Pakistani politics. His works include "Ideology of Pakistan" and a biography of his father, "Zinda Rood" (Living Stream). He often wrote on the need for judicial reform and the role of Islamic values in Pakistani society. His tenure as a judge was generally regarded as one marked by integrity.

He passed away in Lahore on January 3, 2015, after a period of illness.
