Oualata

Oualata is a town in southeastern Mauritania, located in the Hodh Ech Chargui region, near the border with Mali. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its important role as a key trading and religious center during the medieval period, particularly between the 11th and 17th centuries.

History and Significance:

Oualata emerged as a significant point on the trans-Saharan trade routes.
