Silo (TV series)
Silo is an American science fiction dystopian drama television series created by Graham Yost, based on the Wool series of novels by Hugh Howey. The series premiered on Apple TV+ on May 5, 2023.
The plot centers around the last ten thousand people on Earth, who live in a giant underground silo stretching hundreds of stories deep. The community within the Silo believes that the outside world is toxic and uninhabitable. The Silo is governed by a strict set of rules, ostensibly designed to protect the population, but which are increasingly questioned by some inhabitants. Those who dare to break the rules, or even express a desire to go outside, face severe consequences, often leading to their cleaning the outside cameras, an act that inevitably leads to their death in the toxic environment.
The series explores themes of social control, the suppression of knowledge, and the search for truth. The characters grapple with questions of freedom, authority, and the nature of their reality as they uncover hidden secrets about the Silo and the world outside. The narrative follows various individuals within the Silo, including engineers, law enforcement officers (Sheriffs and Deputies), IT specialists, and those from the lower levels of the structure, revealing the stratified nature of the Silo society and the tensions that arise from it.
