Shiv–Hari
Shiv–Hari refers to the Indian music composer duo consisting of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma (a renowned Santoor player) and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (a celebrated flute player). They are best known for their collaborative work composing music for several highly successful Bollywood films.
Their partnership began in 1967, though they achieved widespread recognition and acclaim starting in the 1980s through their film scores. Shiv-Hari’s music is characterized by a blend of Indian classical music with contemporary sounds, creating a unique and popular appeal. They were especially known for integrating traditional Indian instruments, particularly the santoor and flute, into mainstream Bollywood songs.
Some of their most notable films as music directors include Silsila (1981), Faasle (1985), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), and Darr (1993). Their work on these films earned them several awards and nominations, solidifying their place as influential figures in Indian film music.
