Jesse Flores (baseball)
Jesse Flores (born January 16, 1915, in Shiner, Texas; died August 31, 1991, in Victoria, Texas) was a Major League Baseball pitcher. He played primarily for the Chicago Cubs from 1942 to 1952, with a brief stint with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1941. Flores was a right-handed pitcher known for his sinker and curveball.
Flores's professional baseball career began in the minor leagues in the late 1930s. He joined the Phillies in 1941 but only appeared in one game before being traded to the Cubs. He found more success with the Cubs, becoming a regular member of their pitching staff. His career was interrupted by military service during World War II, but he returned to the Cubs after the war.
During his time with the Cubs, Flores was primarily used as a relief pitcher, but he also started games. He was a member of the 1945 Cubs team that won the National League pennant and played in the World Series against the Detroit Tigers. Although the Cubs lost the series, Flores pitched in one game.
After leaving the Cubs in 1952, Flores played for a short time in the minor leagues before retiring from professional baseball. He returned to Texas and worked in other occupations after his baseball career ended.
