Shaldon

Shaldon is a village and civil parish in South Devon, England, situated on the opposite bank of the River Teign from Teignmouth. It lies within the Teignbridge district.

Geography and Location:

Shaldon is located on the south side of the mouth of the River Teign. Its position provides views across the river to Teignmouth and out to the English Channel. The village is characterised by its red sandstone cliffs and sheltered beaches. The area around Shaldon is part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

History:

Historically, Shaldon was a fishing and shipbuilding community. The village also has a past related to smuggling. The Shaldon Bridge, a distinctive wooden bridge connecting Shaldon and Teignmouth, was originally built in the 1930s, replacing a ferry service.
