David Heyes

David Heyes is a British conductor and double bassist. He is known for his work as a solo performer, clinician, and educator in the field of double bass.

Heyes studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Rodney Slatford. He has since established an international career, performing as a soloist with orchestras worldwide and giving masterclasses at leading music institutions. He is particularly recognised for his advocacy of new music for the double bass, commissioning and premiering numerous works by contemporary composers.

Heyes is also a prolific arranger and editor of music for the double bass, making available a wide range of repertoire previously unavailable to bassists. He publishes extensively through Recital Music, his own publishing house. He also has an extensive discography of recordings featuring the double bass.

In addition to his performance and publishing activities, Heyes is a dedicated teacher. He regularly teaches masterclasses and workshops, inspiring and mentoring young bass players. He is considered a leading figure in the double bass community.
