The Contract (2006 film)

The Contract is a 2006 action thriller film directed by Bruce Beresford and starring Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. The film follows Ray Keene (Cusack), a widowed father and former police officer, as he attempts to transport a captured assassin, Frank Cordell (Freeman), through the wilderness.

Keene, still grieving the loss of his wife, is trying to reconnect with his estranged son, Chris (Jamie Anderson). They embark on a camping trip in the Cascade Mountains. During their trip, Keene accidentally becomes involved in the capture of Cordell, a professional killer wanted by the FBI, after a car crash leaves Cordell's fellow assassin dead and Cordell injured.

Keene decides to take Cordell into custody himself, hoping to use him as leverage to win back his son's respect. However, Cordell's highly skilled team of mercenaries, led by a ruthless woman named Gwen Miles (Alice Krige), begins hunting them down. Keene must protect his son and keep Cordell alive while evading the assassins and navigating the treacherous terrain. The film explores themes of fatherhood, redemption, and the moral complexities of justice. Despite its star power, The Contract received generally negative reviews upon its release.
