Leonard Stone (judge)
Leonard Stone (1903-1988) was an Australian jurist who served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria from 1956 to 1973. Born in Melbourne, Stone was educated at Melbourne High School and the University of Melbourne, where he studied law. He was admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1926 and quickly established a successful practice, specializing in commercial law.
Stone served in the Australian Army during World War II.
In 1956, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Victoria. During his tenure, Stone presided over a wide variety of cases, including criminal trials, civil disputes, and appeals. He was known for his meticulous approach to the law, his fairness, and his insightful judgments. He retired from the bench in 1973.
Beyond his judicial career, Stone was involved in various community organizations. He was respected for his integrity and contributions to the legal profession and the wider community.
