Helyett (cycling team)

Helyett was a Belgian professional cycling team that existed from 1957 to 1968. It was known under various names during its existence, primarily due to sponsorship changes. Some of its more notable names included Faema-Guerra (1960-1961), Solo-Superia (1962-1964), and Molteni (1965-1968).

The team achieved considerable success, particularly during the early and mid-1960s. Notable riders who competed for Helyett, under its various guises, included Rik Van Looy, considered one of the greatest cyclists of all time, and Eddy Merckx, arguably the most dominant cyclist in history.

The team participated in major cycling events such as the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España, securing stage wins and overall classifications in some cases. The Molteni years, specifically, are remembered for establishing the foundation of Eddy Merckx's illustrious career and dominance in the sport.

Following the 1968 season, the team underwent further sponsorship and structural changes, eventually evolving into teams with different names and management. Its legacy remains significant, particularly in connection with the early careers of cycling legends and its contributions to professional cycling in the 1960s.
