Shakedown (album)

Shakedown is the thirteenth studio album by American singer Bob Seger, released in 1987. It was Seger's only studio album of the 1980s not to reach the top 3 in the U.S., peaking at number 8.

Background and Content:

The album's title track, "Shakedown," was originally intended for Eddie Murphy to perform in the film Beverly Hills Cop II. However, Murphy felt he could not dedicate the time required for recording due to other commitments. Seger stepped in, recording the song, which then became the lead single and was featured prominently in the film. "Shakedown" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Seger's only number one single.

The album features a mix of rock and roll, ballad, and R&B influences. Other notable tracks include "You Know What To Do," "The Real Love," and "Little Victories." Several guest musicians contributed to the album, including Glenn Frey (of the Eagles) and Don Henley.

Reception:

Despite not reaching the same commercial heights as Seger's previous albums like Night Moves or Stranger in Town, Shakedown was still a commercial success, achieving platinum certification. Critical reception was mixed, with some critics praising the album's strong songwriting and production, while others found it to be inconsistent in quality.
