Sens Unik
Sens Unik was a pioneering Swiss hip-hop group from Bern, Switzerland, active primarily in the 1990s. They are considered one of the most important and influential acts in the development of Swiss German hip-hop (known as "Mundartrap").
Formed in 1991, Sens Unik rose to prominence with their innovative use of the Bernese dialect and their socially conscious lyrics, often addressing issues of racism, social injustice, and everyday life in Switzerland. Their music blended traditional hip-hop elements with influences from funk, soul, and jazz, creating a distinctive sound.
Key members included DJ Cutmando (producer and DJ) and MCs Big Zis, Carlos Leal, and Remo. The group released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Original Street Art" (1994) and "Egal Was" (1996), which helped to popularize Swiss German rap on a national scale.
Sens Unik disbanded in 2002. However, their impact on Swiss music remains significant, inspiring a new generation of artists and contributing to the acceptance of dialect music within the mainstream. Members have pursued individual careers in music, acting, and other creative fields. Their legacy continues to be celebrated in Swiss hip-hop culture.
