32 Leaves
32 Leaves is a now-defunct independent video game development company based in Seoul, South Korea. Founded in 2006, they are best known for developing the action-adventure game Kibou no Kakera to Mayoi no Mori (Fragments of Hope and the Forest of Bewilderment), released internationally as Rusty Hearts.
The company focused primarily on creating online multiplayer games with a distinct anime-inspired art style. Rusty Hearts, their most successful title, featured a combination of hack-and-slash gameplay, dungeon exploration, and a gothic horror aesthetic. The game was initially free-to-play with a microtransaction model.
Following the release of Rusty Hearts, 32 Leaves was acquired by Perfect World Entertainment in 2011. The game continued to be operated by Perfect World Entertainment for several years.
Rusty Hearts was eventually shut down in North America and Europe in 2014. The Japanese server remained active for a longer period before also being discontinued.
Despite its relatively short lifespan, 32 Leaves and Rusty Hearts garnered a dedicated following among fans of anime-style MMORPGs.
