Secret City (TV series)

Secret City is an Australian political thriller television series based on the novels The Marmalade Files and The Mandarin Code by Chris Uhlmann and Steve Lewis. The series premiered on Foxtel's Showcase channel in Australia in 2016.

The first season, titled Secret City: The Marmalade Files, follows journalist Harriet Dunkley (Anna Torv) as she uncovers a web of political intrigue and conspiracy in Canberra, involving the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and Chinese government officials. Dunkley's investigation is triggered by a series of seemingly unrelated events, including the death of a young political staffer and the disappearance of a Chinese dissident.

The second season, titled Secret City: Under the Eagle, premiered in 2019 and picks up two years after the events of the first season. Harriet Dunkley, recently released from prison, finds herself embroiled in a new national security crisis. The season explores themes of cybersecurity, foreign interference, and the erosion of democratic institutions. The primary threat revolves around a cyber attack originating from within the Australian government itself.

Both seasons feature a cast of prominent Australian actors, and are known for their complex plots, suspenseful atmosphere, and exploration of contemporary political issues. The series has been praised for its realism and its depiction of the inner workings of Australian politics and intelligence agencies.
