Vladimir Krylov (general)

Vladimir Vasilyevich Krylov (Russian: Владимир Васильевич Крылов; born July 29, 1948) is a retired Russian general. He served in the Soviet and Russian Armed Forces, primarily within the Strategic Rocket Forces (RVSN).

Krylov began his military career after graduating from the Rostov Higher Military Command School of Rocketry in 1970. He rose through the ranks, holding various command and staff positions within missile divisions and armies.

His career culminated in his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Rocket Forces of the Russian Federation in April 1996. He held this position until April 2001, overseeing Russia's nuclear deterrent during a period of significant political and economic change.

During his tenure as Commander-in-Chief, Krylov was responsible for maintaining the operational readiness of Russia's strategic missile forces, implementing arms control treaties, and overseeing the modernization of missile systems. He played a key role in negotiations with the United States on strategic arms reductions.

After retiring from active military service in 2001, Krylov remained involved in defense-related activities, contributing to analysis and consulting on strategic issues. He holds a doctorate in military sciences and is the author of several publications on strategic deterrence.

He is a recipient of various state awards and decorations for his service to the country.
