Delta (airship)

The Delta was a non-rigid airship, also known as a blimp, built by the British Army during World War I. It belonged to the Delta-class of airships, which were primarily used for coastal patrol and anti-submarine warfare. The Delta-class airships were characterized by their relatively small size and simple construction, making them relatively easy to produce and maintain. They were powered by a single engine and carried a small crew, typically consisting of a pilot, engineer, and observer. While not particularly fast or heavily armed, the Delta-class airships proved effective in their assigned roles, contributing to the Allied war effort by detecting and deterring German U-boats in the coastal waters surrounding Great Britain. Their endurance and ability to loiter over large areas made them valuable assets for maritime surveillance. The Delta, like other airships of its class, was eventually retired after the war.
