Saiyuki Reload (TV series)

Saiyuki Reload is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga of the same name by Kazuya Minekura. It is the second season of the Saiyuki anime adaptation, following Gensomaden Saiyuki.

Saiyuki Reload continues the journey of Genjyo Sanzo, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Cho Hakkai as they travel west to prevent the resurrection of the demon Gyumaoh. The series adapts the "Reload" and a portion of the "Burial" arcs from the manga, showcasing the group's increasing battles against stronger and more determined enemies. The story delves deeper into each character's past, revealing more about their motivations and the burdens they carry. The focus remains on action, adventure, and the complex relationships between the four main characters, often punctuated by comedic moments despite the serious underlying threat.

The series was animated by Studio Pierrot and broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan between October 2, 2003, and March 25, 2004, spanning 25 episodes. A sequel series, Saiyuki Reload Gunlock, followed in 2004. The series has been dubbed in English and released in North America by Geneon Entertainment (formerly Pioneer Entertainment) and later by Funimation Entertainment.
