Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty, is the title character of Walt Disney's 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty. She is a princess cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent, who decrees that Aurora will prick her finger on a spinning wheel spindle and die before sunset on her sixteenth birthday.
To protect her, Aurora is hidden away in a forest cottage by the three good fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, who rename her Briar Rose and raise her as a peasant. They try to conceal her true identity and royal lineage to prevent Maleficent from finding her. Despite their efforts, Maleficent's curse ultimately comes to pass.
Aurora is depicted as a beautiful and kind young woman with golden blonde hair, violet eyes, and fair skin. She is known for her grace, gentleness, and sweet singing voice. During her time in the forest, she encounters Prince Phillip, with whom she falls in love, unaware of his royal status or her own.
The curse of death is altered by Merryweather, who changes it so that Aurora will instead fall into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love's kiss. Following the fulfillment of Maleficent's curse, Prince Phillip battles Maleficent and, with the aid of the good fairies, defeats her and awakens Aurora with a kiss, breaking the spell.
Aurora's character embodies themes of fate, good versus evil, and the power of true love. She represents innocence and purity, and her story highlights the triumph of good over darkness. She has become a significant and iconic character within the Disney Princess franchise.
