Clear Lake City (Greater Houston)

Clear Lake City is a master-planned community located in the southeastern portion of Houston, Texas, within the larger Greater Houston metropolitan area. Primarily located in Harris County, with a small portion extending into Galveston County, Clear Lake City is situated near the Johnson Space Center (JSC), formerly known as the Manned Spacecraft Center. This proximity has historically made it a significant hub for the aerospace industry and related businesses.

The community was originally developed by the Del E. Webb Corporation in the early 1960s. Its design aimed to provide a comprehensive living environment with residential areas, commercial centers, and recreational facilities. Key features of Clear Lake City include a variety of housing options ranging from single-family homes to apartments and condominiums, as well as numerous parks, green spaces, and waterways. The area is bisected by Clear Lake, a body of water that provides opportunities for boating, fishing, and other water activities.

Clear Lake City is known for its strong public school system, served primarily by the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD). The area is also home to several institutions of higher education, including the University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL).

Transportation in Clear Lake City relies heavily on roadways, with major thoroughfares providing access to other parts of Houston and the surrounding region. Public transportation options are available but are less extensive than in other areas of the city.
