Sōkō-ji

Sōkō-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple located in the city of Obama, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. It belongs to the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism, specifically the Nanzen-ji branch.

Sōkō-ji is known for its association with the exiled Emperor Go-Daigo in the 14th century. The temple provided refuge for the emperor after his failed Kenmu Restoration and subsequent escape from Kyoto. Go-Daigo is believed to have spent his final days at Sōkō-ji before his death in 1339.
