Russinho (footballer, born 1902)
Russinho, whose full name was Moacyr Rodrigues dos Santos, (December 18, 1902 – May 21, 1977) was a Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder. He is best known for his contributions to Vasco da Gama in the 1920s and 1930s and for being a member of the Brazilian national team at the 1930 FIFA World Cup in Uruguay.
Russinho began his career with Andarahy in 1922 before moving to Vasco da Gama in 1925. At Vasco, he was a key player in a dominant team, helping the club win several Campeonato Carioca titles. He was renowned for his strong tackling and passing ability.
He was selected for the Brazilian squad for the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. He played in both of Brazil's matches in the tournament, against Yugoslavia and Bolivia. Brazil did not advance past the group stage.
After his playing career ended, Russinho remained involved in football, working as a coach and administrator. He is remembered as one of the significant players of his era in Brazilian football, particularly for his role in establishing Vasco da Gama as a major force.
