Royal Parade (patience)
Royal Parade is a patience or solitaire card game. It is a relatively straightforward game requiring a single deck of 52 playing cards. The objective is to arrange the cards into eight foundation piles, one for each suit in ascending order from Ace to King.
Gameplay:
-
Layout: The entire deck is dealt face up into eight columns. The number of cards in each column is variable, but typically follows a distribution like 6-6-6-6-5-5-5-5. These columns form the tableau.
-
Foundation Piles: Eight spaces are reserved above the tableau for the foundation piles. These start empty.
-
Movement: Only the top card of each column in the tableau is available for play.
-
Building on Foundations: Aces are moved to the foundation piles as they become available. Subsequent cards can be placed on a foundation pile if they are of the same suit and one rank higher than the top card of that foundation pile.
-
Building on the Tableau: Cards can be moved from one column to another within the tableau if they are of the same suit and one rank lower than the top card of the destination column. This allows for the uncovering of cards deeper within the tableau.
-
Empty Columns: When a column in the tableau becomes empty, it can be filled with any available card from the top of another column.
-
Winning: The game is won when all cards have been successfully moved to the eight foundation piles, forming complete ascending suit sequences from Ace to King.
Variations:
While the general principles remain consistent, minor variations may exist in the distribution of cards at the start of the game or specific rules regarding the movement of cards within the tableau.
