Ron Wotus

Ron Wotus (born March 3, 1961) is an American professional baseball coach and former Major League Baseball (MLB) player. He spent his entire MLB coaching career with the San Francisco Giants from 1998 to 2021, primarily serving as the third base coach.

Playing Career

Wotus was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 16th round of the 1979 MLB draft. He played shortstop in the minor leagues for several seasons, never reaching the major league level.

Coaching Career

After his playing career ended, Wotus transitioned into coaching. He worked in the Giants' minor league system, managing various teams before being promoted to the major league coaching staff in 1998. His tenure with the Giants was remarkable for its length and stability. As third base coach, he was responsible for instructing baserunners and making strategic decisions related to sending runners home. He also held various other coaching responsibilities over the years, including bench coach and infield coach. Wotus was part of three World Series championship teams with the Giants (2010, 2012, and 2014). He retired from coaching after the 2021 season, but remained with the Giants as a special assistant.
