Robert Richards (Welsh politician)
Robert Richards (1884 – 1954) was a Welsh Labour Party politician. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wrexham from 1922 to 1924 and again from 1929 to 1931.
Richards was born in Llangynog, Montgomeryshire, and educated at University College, Bangor, and Christ's College, Cambridge. He was a professor of economics and political science at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire (later Cardiff University) before entering politics.
In Parliament, Richards was a strong advocate for Welsh interests and social reform. He lost his seat in the 1924 general election but regained it in 1929. He was defeated again in the 1931 election amidst a significant Labour Party downturn.
Beyond his parliamentary career, Richards remained active in Welsh public life. He was involved in education and continued to write and lecture on economic and political issues.
