Richard Wallop (MP)

Richard Wallop (c. 1620 – 1697) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1697.

Wallop was the eldest son of Henry Wallop of Farley Wallop, Hampshire and his wife Elizabeth Corbet, daughter of Sir Richard Corbet, 1st Baronet, of Moreton Corbet, Shropshire. He matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford in 1636. He was admitted at Lincoln's Inn in 1637 and called to the bar in 1645.

He served as a Member of Parliament for Andover in the First Protectorate Parliament in 1654, the Second Protectorate Parliament in 1656, and the Third Protectorate Parliament in 1659.

After the Restoration, he was elected Member of Parliament for Whitchurch in 1660 for the Convention Parliament. He was elected MP for Stockbridge in 1689 and sat until his death in 1697.

Wallop married Elizabeth Booth, daughter of William Booth of Lincoln's Inn. His son John Wallop, 1st Earl of Portsmouth also became a Member of Parliament.
