Kinetta (film)

Kinetta is a 2005 Greek experimental psychological thriller film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. It is his second feature film, following My Best Friend (2001), and precedes his international breakthrough film, Dogtooth (2009).

The film revolves around three characters: a police officer, a hotel chambermaid, and a photographer, who gather in a deserted Greek resort town during the off-season. They engage in recreating violent scenes, specifically car accidents, often with a detached and clinical approach. The reasons for their peculiar activities remain ambiguous, leaving the viewer to interpret their motivations and the overall meaning of the film.

Kinetta is known for its minimalist style, unsettling atmosphere, and exploration of themes such as violence, sexuality, and the nature of representation. It features Lanthimos's signature deadpan humor and unconventional narrative structure, elements that would become hallmarks of his later work. While not as widely recognized as some of his subsequent films, Kinetta is considered a significant early work in his filmography and a key example of the Greek Weird Wave cinema movement.
