Rho Arae

Rho Arae (ρ Ara / ρ Arae) is a star in the southern constellation Ara. It is a yellow G-type giant star located approximately 114 light-years from Earth.

Rho Arae is classified as a G5III star, indicating that it is a giant star that has exhausted the hydrogen fuel in its core and has evolved off the main sequence. The "G5" spectral type signifies that the star has a surface temperature similar to the Sun, giving it a yellow hue. The "III" luminosity class denotes its status as a giant.

The star has an apparent magnitude of about 4.94, making it faintly visible to the naked eye under good viewing conditions, away from significant light pollution.

Rho Arae is larger and more luminous than the Sun. Its mass is estimated to be about 1.6 times the mass of the Sun, and its radius is around 8 times the solar radius. Its luminosity is roughly 30 times that of the Sun.

The radial velocity of Rho Arae indicates that it is moving away from the Solar System at a rate of approximately 24 km/s.

Due to its evolved state, Rho Arae is expected to eventually shed its outer layers and become a white dwarf.
