Ray Palmer (Arrowverse)
Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom, is a fictional character appearing in the Arrowverse franchise, primarily portrayed by Brandon Routh. He is a genius scientist, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist who first appears in the third season of the television series Arrow.
Ray Palmer is the CEO of Palmer Technologies (formerly Queen Consolidated, later acquired after Oliver Queen's presumed death). He is driven by a desire to help people and make a positive impact on the world, motivated in part by the loss of his fiancée, Anna Loring, during Slade Wilson's attack on Starling City.
Ray develops a powerful exoskeleton suit, the A.T.O.M. suit (Advanced Technology Operating Mechanism), which grants him superpowers, including the ability to fly, generate energy blasts, and, eventually, the ability to shrink to microscopic size. He initially uses the suit to fight crime in Starling City, rebranded as Star City in his honor.
Later, Ray joins the Legends of Tomorrow, traveling through time and space to protect the timeline from various threats. His intelligence, optimism, and unwavering belief in the potential for good often serve as a counterbalance to the other, sometimes more cynical, members of the team. During his time with the Legends, his shrinking technology is further refined and becomes a more significant part of his skillset.
Ray Palmer is generally depicted as a charming and somewhat quirky individual, possessing a strong moral compass. His relationships with other characters, particularly those he considers friends and teammates, are central to his character arc throughout his appearances in the Arrowverse. He eventually leaves the Legends to marry Nora Darhk and start a new life. His departure is marked by a sense of growth and maturity, indicating a desire to apply his skills and enthusiasm to a more stable and domestic life.
