Neil Gow (microbiologist)

Neil Anthony Robert Gow FRS FRSE FMedSci is a British microbiologist specializing in fungal biology and pathogenesis. He is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Exeter and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact.

Gow's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of fungal growth, development, and virulence, particularly in human pathogenic fungi such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. His work encompasses a broad range of techniques, including molecular genetics, cell biology, and mathematical modeling, to investigate how fungi interact with their environment and cause disease. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of fungal morphogenesis, biofilm formation, and the role of cell wall glycans in fungal pathogenesis.

Gow obtained his PhD from the University of Aberdeen. He has held positions at the University of Aberdeen and the University of Exeter. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci). He has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of microbiology. His research has been instrumental in developing new strategies for the prevention and treatment of fungal infections.
