Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers (video game)
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers is a platform game developed by Capcom and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1990. It is based on the Disney animated television series of the same name. The game allows players to control either Chip or Dale, the titular chipmunk protagonists, on a mission to rescue a missing kitten named Mandy and unravel a plot masterminded by the villainous Fat Cat.
The gameplay is centered around cooperative two-player action, although a single player can control either Chip or Dale. Players can jump, duck, and pick up objects, most notably acorns and crates, to throw at enemies or use as platforms to reach higher areas. Acorns serve as the primary projectile weapon. Crates and other larger objects can be used to defeat enemies or to solve puzzles.
Levels are presented in a side-scrolling format and are designed with a cartoonish aesthetic, reflecting the style of the animated series. Each level is filled with various enemies and obstacles, requiring players to utilize their skills and cooperate to progress. Boss battles occur at the end of certain stages.
The game features a world map that allows players to select the order in which they tackle certain levels. Upon completion of a level, the player (or players) receive a score and return to the world map to choose their next destination.
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers is recognized for its cooperative gameplay, colorful graphics, and faithfulness to the source material. It was followed by a sequel, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, also for the NES.
