Charles Bawden

Charles Bawden (1924-2018) was a British Mongolist scholar. He was a leading figure in the field of Mongolian studies for much of the second half of the 20th century and early 21st century. Bawden's work encompassed various aspects of Mongolian language, literature, history, and culture.

He held a professorship at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where he taught Mongolian language and literature for many years. Bawden contributed significantly to the development of Mongolian studies in the West.
