RMS Saxon

The RMS Saxon was a passenger and mail liner operated by the Union-Castle Line. Built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, she was launched in 1899 and primarily served the route between Southampton and South Africa. The "RMS" prefix denotes Royal Mail Steamer, indicating that she carried mail under contract with the British Royal Mail. The Saxon was a significant vessel for Union-Castle, representing the evolution of their fleet towards larger and more luxurious liners. She served for over 20 years, transporting passengers, cargo, and mail until she was requisitioned for war service during World War I. After the war, she was refitted and returned to commercial service before being scrapped in 1925.
